Wednesday 17th December;

For our four lessons today we gave out our channel pitch to the rest of the group to be assessed. The pitch was to give our plan on what channel to broadcast our soap on. (Channel 4) What time to broadcast and scheduling plans. I thought the pitch went very well and we made some valid points to like with research and our target audience.
We also carried on writing our script and bring all the ideas together. We got this done very quickly to my surprise and i think the typed up final script works very well with the limted amout of time of two minutes to open our soap opera.
After the holidays we plan to start filming our soap and bringing all our ideas together finally to create our soap as best as we can...

Friday 5th December;

In the lesson today we researched the scheduling of programmes for each five terrestrial channels, BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 and Channel 5. By doing this it will help me to decide what channel and what time to broadcast my soap opera to recieve the largest audience. I then need to finish this off by next lesson.

Thursday 4th December;

In the single lesson we had today i helped with the process of completing our presentation for Mondays lesson. We had alot of trouble trying to decide on what to include in our title sequence as we hadnt really thought about it yet but we decided in the end to create it some what like the Hollyoaks title sequence, which would appeal to our young audience. We then moved onto what we would present about our soap opera.

Wednesday 3rd December;

Today we have been very productive which has been very useful. We have completed our storylines and character profiles, but we still need to get the people to be the characters so we can get the pictures for the profiles. It think today has been very successful and plan to start the script by friday. We have to pitch our ideas for the soap on monday so i think we will be concentrating on that powerpoint for quite a while.

Monday, 1 December 2008

Monday 1st December;

Today we have discussed how far we have come from the start of pre-production. We then moved onto finalizing our storylines ideas and creating our character profiles which was quite hard as we had to try and make sure all our characters were stereotypical and worked with the other characters. I hope to have these character profiles done by wednesday so we can move onto the next project...

Thursday 27th November;

In thursdays lesson i finally completed my research on the ITV channel. I then came back to my group and carried on bringing our ideas together on one big piece of paper. I think this is going to become great help when we need to come by choosing what themes/issues and storylines we want in the soap. I hope by next lesson to have all my reseach completed and stuck in my portfolio ready to start with the rest of our pre-preduction.
Today was a gooood day!

Wednesday 26th November;

Now that we have began our Pre-Production we have alot of work to be completed by the end of the term, in four weeks. My group; Adam, Sofia, Keeley and myself have began researching on the five terrestrial channels; BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Ch4 and Ch 5 with Miss Barnett. We had a group discussion on what we were going to do for the four lessons which i found very useful. We then began our research on codes and conventions and hope to get this completed by the end of the lesson today. I began research on the setting of soaps, Adam researched on the Issues/Themes found in soaps, Sofia researched on the stereotypical character and Keeley got information on the Narrative. We have mangaed to complete alot of the work very well, which i am very please about.

Work I have done so far;

Work I have done so far... :)

  • Introduction to Capture
Because i was new to the diploma i was set a task that was to go out with a partner for only an hour and to film footage to create a certain emotion. Once we had finished filming we had to edit it on iMovie to produce a one minute video expressing our chosen emotion.

'Capture One'

  • Moving Image Language
For this we looked at all the camera shots and movements to make sure we were familiar with them all. We then had to edit the sound for a clip out of the film Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (2003). I found this very useful as became very familiar with how to use iMovie.

  • Working in Television
We were given a task to research in pairs on jobs within the media. I had to work with a partner and research on the job titles of a Television Director and Television Producer. Once we had researched about the jobs we had to plan and produce a Vox Pop explaining to year nine girls what they were about. Even though we got this project done near enough on time we found that if we'd planned our work in a lot more detail it would of helped us more.

'VoxPop'

  • Soap Opera
Soap operas are extremely popular in the television industry, Eastenders and Coronation Street are two of the most well known Soaps in Britain. For or first main project we had to pair up, research plan and create a section of a television programme called 'Defining British Soaps'. We had to research the history of soap operas and produce a detailed timeline to help us with making the video. I enjoyed making this project as i got to incorporate my own ideas into the project and be a lot more creative than in the other projects i had done before.
